Dutch Butter Cookies

The first recipe we tried from my Grandma’s cookbook was Caramel Rolls. It was a hit! The next recipe from her cookbook is Dutch Butter cookies. My Little Chefs are always excited about a new cookie recipe. I was intrigued because this recipe only has 3 ingredients; flour, sugar and butter. The best part was we had all those ingredients in our house and could make them right away!
Little Chef D first added the butter to our food processor first. Then she carefully measured out the flour. She makes a huge mess dipping the measuring cup into the flour container so we have found it easier for her to scoop the flour using a spoon into the measuring cup. She then uses a knife to level it off.

Next she measured out the sugar and added it to the food processor then combined all ingredients well. That’s it! What a simple quick and easy recipe!

I showed her how to make small balls which she absolutely loved doing all by herself. For each ball she asked if it was small enough. Sometimes they were fine, sometimes they were a lot bigger. She didn’t get frustrated, she was enjoying herself.

We decided to roll out all the dough first before moving onto the next step.

Take a glass and flour it well, very well. Lightly smash each dough ball just so it flattens slightly.

Our problem came when Little Chef D flattened each cookie too much. The harder you push the more likely the dough is to get stuck to the bottom of the glass. So, every cookie stuck to the bottom of the glass, some more then others. I did not have as much trouble as Little Chef D.

When they are all perfectly flattened put them in a preheated oven for 10-11 minutes.

When they come out they look like perfect little fluffy coins.

Little Chef D had to be the first to try them since she made them. Then she paraded around and told everyone they had to try these good cookies. Little Chef Dad didn’t know what type of recipe we made when he tried them. He said these taste like….I can’t describe it. I said like butter cookies. He said exactly, that is exactly what they taste like. They sure do live up to their name. I love that they are small and bite size. One bite cookies eliminates a lot of messes in my house!
